MP Shashi Tharoor and hoping-to-be MLA Sreesanth engage in an awkward Twitter fight

Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram and former union minister Shashi Tharoor and former-cricketer-turned-MLA-hopeful Sreesanth got into the most awkward Twitter spat of all times.

Here's a basic gist of what went down in Twitter-land -

Battleground: Twitter

The bannermen: Sreesanth and team versus Shashi Tharoor and team

Combat style: Verbal prodding and teenaged foot-stomping

Last night, Shashi Tharoor shared an old interview where Sreesanth is doing a stunning job of answering in the vaguest manner possible while talking to a journalist from NDTV. In his tweet, Tharoor told the former fast-paced bowler that he should have stuck to what he knew best - swinging the ball.

For those who've been living under a rock on the moon, Sreesanth, who used to play for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, was banned along with two other players for alleged spot fixing and betting. So this bouncer of a tweet from Tharoor predictably hit him hard.

Although Sreesanth, 33, has deleted part of his initial reply, according to DNA his comeback to the veteran politician was:

'I would have loved to keep bowling them but did u even call or help me and my family or did u even have any word to help me..when me and my family was struggling get through my toughest situation..u r party didn't even call or help ..u guys only talk.'

That escalated quickly.

Later, the usually aggressive bowler backtracked and sent Tharoor some love saying, "..once I become MLA I will make sure no one goes through what I went through. I will surely help and serve my people and will surely keep doing it.God is great may God be with me and family. I love my people. I love my party, will surly do everything that my party ask me to. Cricket might be over but I am still breathing."

So emo.

The real talent here has to be tweeting ALL of this on a forum that has a 147-character upper limit. But then he deleted all of this. Again. The only thing that's left of this supremely weird and random spat is this bit of extra love from Sreesanth.

"Take care ..may someone give u strength to genuinely help our people..respect alwys," said Sreesanth.

Here's the truly awkward bit though, Shashi responded with thanking the bowler, telling him he was one of his faves, but reiterating that politics is a different game altogether; ending with, "now you're in the nets, full tosses will come." Eh? What?

An earlier version of the article mentioned Tharoor as an MLA. We regret the error.
