To celebrate 2017 as the year of friendly exchange between India and Japan, a cultural festival 'Konnichiwa Japan' will kick off on November 18 at DLF Place, Saket with an aim to commemorate and strengthen the ties between the two nations.
Konnichiwa Japan (Japanese Cultural Festival) celebrates the cultural bond between India and Japan. It is a platform for the confluence of cultures where language is not a barrier.
The two day event has been organised by Discover Japan Club in India and World Heritage Academy in support of Embassy of Japan and Japan Foundation in India in association with Discover India Club in Japan.
The event has a special performance of Taiko, an ancient Japanese form of percussion using large drums. The two-day festival incorporates Sumo Wrestling, Taiko performance (Japanese Drum), traditional dance from Okinawa, Undokai (Sports Meeting), FIFA 18 Gaming Competition, Anime Cosplay, Shigin , Japanese Tea Cermony, Bonsai, Ikebana and Origami.
"In the recent years, India-Japan relationship has undergone a qualitative shift as the economic relation between the countries is rapidly developing. Under this circumstance, cultural relations have become better and stronger to encourage the cultural interflow between India and Japan. This event is to let the Indian people experience Japanese life and culture, customs, arts, lifestyle, festivals, tourism, and food," said Ravi Chopra, President Discover Japan Club.
He added, "We seek to promote youth exchanges between India and Japan through such initiatives. The festival comprises of many cultural demonstrations from traditional to modern. Everyone will be able to have a slice of traditional Japanese culture while sitting in India,"
The objective of the event is to showcase and introduce Japanese culture to the Indian people through various performances and cultural lectures.
