2016 Billboard Music Awards: the worst of fashion hits the red carpet

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards are to fashion what Taher Shah is to music - they make no sense.

The red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards on Monday night in Las Vegas was a train wreck led by Britney Spears, Ariana Grande and someone called Z LaLa. This, right after Cannes 2016 demonstrated exactly how celebs rock the red carpet.

If ever there was a time to wear see-through dresses, hip-high slits, and other daring designs, Billboard Music Awards was it. But while some stars were able to pull off these revealing new trends and still look red carpet appropriate, others are in need of new designers.

Britney Spears was the center of attention at the Billboard Music Awards 2016. We are struggling to find fashionable words to describe Britney Spears' dress at the event. There's lingerie with a train. And those boots are best fitted to store grapes in.

Singer Ciara risked a serious wardrobe malfunction showing major sideboob in the silver metallic dress that slit all the way to her hip. We were holding our breath with her every step. She probably was too.

And then there was Z LaLa. The 23-year-old whose fashion choices are generally not applauded donned a black caged gown and a sky-high wig creation. Well she got all the attention, and some more.

Rihanna took a rare misstep in a boring brown blazer dress. Her hair, her shoes, it was all wrong. Nothing worked for her. This surely isn't our favorite RiRi fashion moment.

Kesha's purple bejewelled matador inspired outfit was simply uninspiring. While we love that her outfit was a tribute to the legendary Prince, she failed to pull it off.

Jessica Alba's style is always on point, so we were disappointed that this red carpet look fell flat. The all-black Zuhair Murad ensemble just had too much going on with its see-through, long-sleeved, mock-turtleneck style. On top of that, the high-heeled boots were a bit hard to handle. Her hair and makeup definitely didn't help either.

Ariana Grande showed up on the red carpet in a weird blue and black cut out dress. The bizarre web print and the cut outs in sheer were eww-inducing.
