Rarest Footage: Squarecut Dolphin filmed giving birth to baby calf
On National Dolphin day coast guards and people on a dolphin cruise in West Australian coast got an opportunity to watch a dolphin giving birth in the wild. This rare sight was captured in the shutterbugs.
This event was witnessed by people on a dolphin cruise in Mandurah, south of Perth. More than 100 animals gathered for mating.
It took almost one hour for the mother Dolphin to give birth to the baby calf which was later named Pom-Pom. According to the researchers from Martin van Aswegen, it was a rare occasion as the mother Dolphin usually avoid giving birth in the presence of humans.
Most of the people on board were acquainted with the mother Squarecut who was surfing alongside boats in the area. It has been nearly three months since her baby-boom was first seen.
Usually, the Dolphin Calf would need their mother's milk for about 18 months.
