53-year-old Texas man sentenced to 50 years in prison for theft of fajitas worth $1.2 million

The 53-year-old man from Texas Gilberto Escamilla who was a former juvenile detention centre employee has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for stealing grilled meat.

Yes, you read it right he was sentenced for stealing fajita (grilled meat that is served as a taco ) over nine years worth $1.2 million. He was sentenced after found guilty of theft.

It was proved that he used to order this Mexican food and deliver to prisoners in Darrel B Hester Juvenile Detention Centre in Cameron County for personal profit.

Fajita scam came to limelight when the accused was on a medical appointment and nearly 800-pound (360-kilogram) fajita was delivered to the centre which does not serve this Mexican dish.

Calling the case exceptional Cameron County Assistant District Attorney Peter Gilman sentence Escamilla to 50 years to send across a message.
