A newlywed couple's happy life ended after the brawl escalated between the couple over meat. The couple tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.

The shocking incident took place in the Isanagar locality in the Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh on June 12.

The man has been identified as Guru Dayal (22) who got married to Reshma (19).

Reportedly, Reshma, a vegetarian had objected to her husband for cooking meat in the kitchen. She asked her husband to cook meat outside the kitchen but Guru Dayal asked his mother to cook inside the kitchen only.

Soon after, the couple engaged into an argument, and later in the night, both allegedly consumed some poisonous substance.

When the family came to know about the incident, Guru Dayal’s father, Shivnath, rushed to a private clinic, where they were transferred to the district hospital.

According to the station house officer (SHO) of Isanagar police station, Suneel Singh said that the couple attempted suicide over the cooking of non-vegetarian dishes in the kitchen.

The wife died during the treatment while the man is in a critical situation.

No FIR has been registered in this case yet, Suneel Singh said. He also added that “we are yet to record the statement of the survivor.”
