UP: 22-year-old man tied to tree, burnt alive by neighbours in Pratapgarh

A 22-year-old man was tied to a tree and burnt alive by his neighbours in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Monday. The neighbours were reportedly angry because of an alleged arrair with a women from their household.

According to reports, men braged into the victim’s house at night, pulled him out and tied him to a tree, before burning him.


A team of police that reached the spot following the incident was attacked, two cars and a bike were set ablaze and few policemen were injured after being assaulted by a mob of villagers who found the man’s half charred body.

The victim identified as Ambika Prasad Patel was reportedly in a relationship with the woman since 2019. But the women’s family was against it. According to reports, she was selected as a constable with UP Police. A few weeks ago, an intimate pictures of the two was circulated on social media.

"The woman and her parents had blamed Ambika Patel for posting and circulating the photo on social media. A criminal case against Mr Patel had been filed by the woman for allegedly trying to 'outrage' her modesty. The same people, the neighbors are now accused of burning him alive," said Abhishek Singh, Pratapgarh's police chief.

Ambika was sent to jail after the case was registered, but was released on parole on 1st May. In March, the UP government had decided to free 11,000 prisoners placed in 71 jails in the state.

According to the police, two main accused have been taken into custody thus far, one of whom is the girl’s father. The charred body of the victim has been sent for post-motem.
