Two labourers runs away with Rs 12,000 after allegedly breaking open an ATM

Two labourers who ran away with Rs 12,000 after reportedly breaking an ATM with a chisel and bricks, a ploy they discovered in YouTube, in Greater Noida were apprehended on Friday, police said.

As per the officials, The Axis bank ATM possessed Rs 19 lakh in it, but the accused could take only Rs 12,000 as they heard the siren of a police vehicle nearing the spot.

"Those arrested have been identified as Manu Sharma and Abhishek Sharma, both labourers hailing from Bihar, and Rs. 9,000 robbed by them have been recovered," Gautam Buddh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said.

The accused attacked the Axis bank ATM at 5am on Thursday after which a case was filed at the Surajpur police station and investigation was initiated, a senior official stated.

Later, Axis bank officials were called in order to determine the loss and it was found that only Rs 12,000 of the Rs 19 lakh were stolen from the machine, he said.

The accused have been put on trial for relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and have been sent to jail, Mr Krishna said, he further added that local police contacted their Bihar counterparts to get more information about the two.
