Tamil Nadu: Two prostitution rackets busted in Coimbatore and Thanjavur; 10 women rescued

A shocking case was reported from Tamil Nadu where police crackdown two prostitution rackets in separate operations in Coimbatore and Thanjavur. As per reports, police rescued 10 women and arrested 21 pimps.

Operation in Coimbatore


As per Times Now reports, on Wednesday night, rural police uncovered a prostitution racket that was running inside a rented lodge. Police arrested 2 people identified as R Ganeshan and K Mahendran who forced a 22-year-old woman into the prostitution after the imposition of the Coronavirus lockdown. During interrogating they told police that they started the sex racket after lockdown hampered their business badly.

The woman has been sent to a state-run shelter home while the two accused have been registered under the relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Operation in Thanjavur

As per police, they received a tip-off about the operation regarding the racket. As soon as they received the information they commissioned 3 special teams conducting raids at various spots in the city. During the probe, they identified 7 houses that were running the rackets under the name of massage parlours and companies. Out of 7 houses, 3 were massage parlours while the remaining 4 were fake companies.

During the raid police rescued 9 women hailing from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring countries including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. Now they have been sent to a state-run shelter home in the city while the 19 pimps who were arrested by the police are now in judicial custody.
