Days after the incident in Rajasthan’s Nagaur where two Dalits were thrashed for allegedly stealing money, another almost identical incident has come to light in the state’s Barmer where a youth was ruthlessly thrashed and a rod allegedly inserted into his private parts on suspicion of theft.

Police officials, however, stated that key accused Moti Singh was taken into custody on Friday soon after the video went viral on Thursday.

The incident took place last month.

The victim’s brother, filed a police complaint in Barmer rural police station on Thursday after the video went viral via which they got the information about their brother’s torture.

He stated that he spoke to his brother, who informed him about the incident on 29th January, he was abducted and locked up in a hotel room where he was fallaciously accused of theft and was mercilessly thrashed. He was forced to consume liquor and an iron rod was inserted into his private parts and Rs 4,800 was taken taken from him. The accused recorded the whole incident and later made it viral.

Barmer’s Superintendent of Police Sharad Chowdhary stated that the victim’s family was straight away contacted after the clip went viral, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and a search operation is underway for other accused.

"Looking at the gravity of the case, a special team has been formed under circle officer Vijay Singh Charan. The video proves the fact that the victim was brutally tortured by the accused. The victim is a vehicle driver and has not yet appeared in person in front of anyone," he added.

As the victim’s brother also alleged that the police had detained his brother on charges of disturbing the peace on the day when the incident was reported, the SP stated that a DSP has been ordered to submit a detailed report on why the victim was held.

"If there has been any lapse on the police's side, then relevant action shall be taken," he said.
