Assam: Security guard steals gold jewellery from woman’s dead body in hospital; incident caught on CCTV

A security guard was arrested for stealing jewellry from the dead body of a woman who died during treatment in Assam's hospital. The accused has been arrested by Police on Friday after the family of the deceased complained against him.

The man identified as David, who worked at the Jorhat Christian Medical Centre. He has been arrested for allegedly removing a pair of gold earrings from the corpse of a woman patient in the hospital.


The deceased was a resident from Dulumani Bora of Jorhat’s Baghchung locality.

According to the reports of HT, the woman was admitted to hospital in a critical condition to the hospital last evening. She died on the same night.

Reports suggested that when relatives of a woman came to collect her body on Friday evening then they found her pair of earrings were missing, said Mrinal Talukdar, superintendent of Police Jorhat.

After a family complained about the missing items, hospital authorities checked the CCTV footage and found that the security guard took off the earrings from a woman’s body placed on a stretcher.

Police rushed the hospital and while searching the guard’s belongings, police found the pair of earrings.

A case has been registered at Jorhat Sadar police station and investigations are on,” Talukdar added.
