Canada's 'Hochelaga, Land of Souls' to race for best foreign category in Oscars 2018

'Hochelaga, Land of Souls' is Canada's pick for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 90th Academy Awards.

The historical drama is directed by François Girard which stars Samian, Vincent Perez and Raoul Trujillo, which portrays Canadian history through the finds at a fictional Montreal archaeological dig, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

'Hochelaga' dramatizes several centuries of Quebec history, through the frame of an archaeological dig initiated by contemporary university professor Antoine Morin after a sinkhole opens up under the college's football stadium.

The film was also screened in the Gala Presentations section at the 2017 'Toronto International Film Festival.'

Canada had finalists in the category three years in a row between 2010 and 2012.

Denys Arcand's 2003 indie drama 'The Barbarian Invasions' was the last Canadian entry to win best foreign-language film.

The '90th Academy Awards' will take place on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
