The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has kidnapped the son of a BJP leader from Assam and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

Kuldeep Moran, the son of Tinsukia Zila Parishad's vice-president Ratnaswer Moran, was abducted on 1 August from Nampong in Arunachal Pradesh, but the matter came to light on 22 August after a video surfaced where the ULFA militants are seen demanding a ransom.

According to reports, the video footage was released by the anti-talk faction of ULFA.

The video shows Kuldeep, surrounded by ULFA militants, pleading for his life and requesting his family and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to consider the seriousness of the matter and fulfill the demands of the rebels.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police have begun a search operation to locate the 27-year-old youth.
