  • Barcelona head into the return leg of the fixture at Nou Camp with a crucial advantage of 2 away goals.

Barcelona beat Arsenal 2 - 0 in the Champions League round of 16 at the Emirates stadium last night owing to a brace from current Ballon d'Or holder Lionel Messi.

After a goalless first half where Barcelona failed to register a shot on target in the first half of a Champions League game for the first time since 2013, the Catalans broke the deadlock with a classic counter attack in the 72nd minute.

Mathieu Flamini brought down Messi in the penalty box ten minutes later, having barely been on the pitch for a minute after coming on as a substitute for Francis Coquelin. Messi made no mistake from the spot to put Barca firmly in the driver's seat ahead of the second leg at the Nou Camp.
