English football's five most prominent and financially strongest clubs, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, reportedly held talks with American billionaire Stephen Ross on Tuesday, 1 March, at a hotel in London over the possibility of a breakaway European Super League.

As per The Sun, Ed Woodward, Bruce Buck, Ferran Soriano, Ivan Gazidis and Ian Ayre, representing Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, respectively, met Ross at Dorchester Hotel in the city's Park Lane area.

The topic of discussion, as per the English daily, was the breakaway European Super League, which will be backed by Ross' group for clubs missing out on the UEFA Champions League.

The five English clubs are said to be enthusiastic about the idea of the tournament, which will help cut a club's costs if it misses out on a spot in the Champions League.

Ross' group currently owns Miami Dolphins and holds the International Champions Cup, a pre-season tournament that attracts some of the biggest European clubs.

Any attempt at starting a breakaway tournament is likely to be fiercely opposed by both UEFA and FIFA.
