It is a heart-wrenching day when a football legend hangs up his boots after serving the nation for as long as 12 years (2004-2016.) Germany played a friendly match on 31 August against Finland, which it won 2-0. Schweinsteiger played for the first 66 minutes, after which he was replaced by Julian Weigl.

This was one memorable moment for the German legend, who holds the fourth highest caps for the national team - 121 appearances. Schweinsteiger is currently with the Red Devils\' - Manchester United - touted to stay till 2018. However, he is seated on the bench. With no desire of ending his club footballing career with any other club, Schweinsteiger maintains that he wants to bid farewell only with the United family.
