Thunderstorm Alert! North Indian cities to get affected; Delhi, Noida, Gurugram schools shut

The high alert has already been raised in some cities in north India. Several parts are likely to witness thunderstorm, along with gusty winds and moderate squall on Tuesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it issued an alert on Monday saying “under the influence of a western disturbance, a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a west-east tough from northwest Rajasthan to central Madhya Pradesh in lower levels” will bring light to moderate rainfall in north India.

The prediction comes a week after a deadly thunderstorm killed at least 124 people and injured more than 300 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

According to multiple reports, in the next 48 hours, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi basically (DELHI NCR) may get affected and western Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness heavy rainfall. The wind speed of 50-70 kilometers per hour has been predicted.

Schools will remain closed

Safety is much more important so precaution has to be taken so, some schools in Delhi and NCR region have already declared a holiday.

The Delhi Police urged people to take safety measures while traveling and the Delhi Metro said it was on alert for heavy rain.

The dust storm has also affected air services in Delhi. Six arriving flights and one departure flight have been delayed.

It was only last week when more than 120 people were killed and more than 300 injured across five states in the northern region in dust storms, thunderstorms and lightning strikes over the past.

Many of these casualties have occurred in parts of Rajasthan and western UP as well.
