UPSC Result 2020: Preparing for civil services? Know how Topper Shubham Kumar cracks IAS exam

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Civil Services Result 2020 on September 24. This year, India’s toughest exam is topped by Shubham Kumar, who hails from Kumari Pur village in Katihar District of Bihar.

While talking to India Today, Shubham shared his preparation strategy for UPSC.


The 24-year-old boy tried three attempts to crack the civil services exams. Last year, he secured 290th rank. However, he didn’t expect that he will bag top rank in the country.

“Currently, I am taking training in Pune under Indian Defense Account Services,“ Shubham told India Today.

Shubham has completed his civil engineering from IIT Bombay in 2018. After completing his graduation, Shubham appeared for the UPSC IAS Exam in 2018 for the first time.

He revealed that he was not working during his preparation for the UPSC exam.

For mains optional subjects, he took anthropology. Sharing his views about Bihar, he said that opportunities are growing in the state and all sectors are working well. Also, there are pucca houses in the state.

This year, 761 candidates have qualified for the UPSC Civil Services Exam 202o. The second position is obtained by Bhopal girl Jagrati Awasthi and she is the topper among females. Jagrati is also an engineering graduate from MANIT. She has been working with BHEL since 2019 and has started her preparation for the IAS exam.
