Calcutta University elections to be over by 31 January

The University of Calcutta will has instructed all colleges to complete college union polls by 31 January, 2017. The announcement was made after the varsity held a meeting with various stake holders on Thursday.

Kolkata will go to polls on 27, 28, 30 and 31 January. The district has 65 colleges. About 20 Colleges in Howrah district will hold elections on 19 Janurary. Colleges in Hooghly and South 24-Paraganas will to vote on 31 January. Hooghly and South 24-Parganas have seven and 30 colleges respectively.

Dates for each college will be specified soon. The dates for union elections in the various campuses of the varsity will be decided later.

"Colleges which operate on multiple shifts will have more than one election dates. Colleges will be divided into different zones after discussing with the local administration and police," inspector of colleges (IoC), Debashis Biswas told TOI.
