Parents commit suicide after 7-year-old son succumbs to dengue

Laxmichandra and Babita, parents of seven-year-old Avinash Rout, committed suicide by jumping off a four-storey building in South Delhi on 9 September. They took this extreme step a day after their only son succumbed to Dengue in a Delhi hospital.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Avinash was not admitted into two hospitals in due to non-availability of beds. His parents later took him to Batra hospital, where he died at 1 pm on 8 September.

The couple hailed from the Kendrapada district of Odisha and Laxmichandra was working for a private firm's business support division.

The last rites were performed at Chhatarpur the same night.

A suicide note, claiming it was their decision to end their lives, was recovered from their house.

Delhi government's health department has ordered issuing of show-cause notices to Moolchand and Max Saket hospital for denying admission to the child.
