AAP MLA Somnath Bharti moves High Court for anticipatory bail

After a non-bailable warrant was issued against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti on 14 September in an alleged domestic violence and attempt to murder case, Bharti has moved to the High Court to challenge the NBW and seek anticipatory bail.

The former Delhi law minister will likely get arrested if his anticipatory bail is dismissed by the High Court.

Bharti's wife Lipika Mitra had earlier filed a complaint of domestic violence with the Delhi Commission for Women on 10 June, in which she had alleged that her husband had been abusing her since their marriage in 2010. She had also complained to the police about the same.

The Delhi Police had last week registered an FIR against Bharti under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (cruelty towards partner in marriage), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
