Chaitra Navratri is celebrated to worship the nine avatars or incarnation of Goddess Durga. The nine-day long festival has its own significance. Each day is dedicated to the avatars of Maa Durga (Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidhatri).
On these nine days, devotees used to observe fast to show their love and dedication towards the Goddess. Also, thank Goddess for her grace on every day.
On 13th April, Durga Ashtami will be celebrated and will be followed by Rama Navami, which is on 14th April. However, some are celebrating on 13th April.
On Durga Ashtami and Ram Navami, devotees hold Kanya pujan or kanjak on these two days and welcome little Goddesses and serve them food made without onion and garlic to seek their blessings.
