Rishabh Pant joined India’s World Cup squad as a replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar Dhawan injured his thumb during India’s second World Cup match against Australia at Oval, London. Rishabh Pant was seen getting some wicket-keeping tips from veteran MS Dhoni ahead of India’s clash against Pakistan in Manchester.

It was a topic of debate that who would join India’s World Cup squad after Shikhar Dhawan was injured. Many names like Ambati Rayudu, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane popped up but finally, it was Rishabh Pant who went to England to join the team. Rishabh Pant was part of India’s back-up players for World Cup along with Ambati Rayudu.

India has played two matches so far against South Africa and Australia which they won. Their match against New Zealand was called off due to rain and both the teams were awarded one point each. India will face their arch-rival Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford. Both the teams have played six World Cup matches so far since 1992 and India have won all the games with a head-to-head count of 6-0.

Rishabh Pant will be in India’s World Cup squad as a cover for Shikhar Dhawan as Dhawan’s progress will be monitored for three weeks while being with the team in England.
