Two time World Cup winning captain, Ricky Ponting backs Indian skipper Virat Kohli over Australian cricketer Steve Smith for a World Cup win. Ponting said, “If Virat Kohli has a good World Cup, India will win.” India will go as everyone’s favorite team after the host England.

The Indian skipper has already hit three centuries in 2019, having played 11 ODIs and scored a total of 611 runs. In the last three years, since the start of 2017, Virat Kohli has a whopping 15 ODI hundreds to his name and that too in just 51 matches.

Team India have recently lost an ODI and a T20I series against Australia at home. This was the first time India lost a bilateral ODI series against Australia since 2009. All the international players are now busy training with their respective IPL sides, including Indian cricketers. After the IPL they will go into the World Cup to win the coveted trophy for their nation.

Ricky Ponting is currently coaching Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and he is also with the Australian national cricket team as an assistant coach.

The 2019 World Cup starts on May 30, with England and South Africa playing the opener of the tournament. Team India will also play their series opener against South Africa on June 6. England and India are going into the tournament as everyone’s favorite. The 2019 World Cup is taking place in England and Wales.
