The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Mumbai Indians’ bowler Rasikh Salam for two years over faulty birth certificate. Salam was set to play a One-Day tri-series for India U-19 in England, beginning July 21. Salam will be replaced by Prabhat Maurya, the all India junior selection committee confirmed.

BCCI in an official statement said, “Rasikh Salam has been banned by the BCCI for two years following a discrepancy - submission of faulty birth certificate to BCCI.”

Rasikh Salam made his Indian Premier League debut for Mumbai Indians this year and became the third player from Jammu & Kashmir to be picked in the IPL. Salam also became the youngest cricketer to play for Mumbai Indians at the age of 17. Salam was spotted by Irfan Pathan who is now a player and mentor for Jammu & Kashmir team Ranji Trophy team.

Salam made his List A debut for Jammu & Kashmir team last year and also played in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy for the same team.

Salam made his debut in the IPL against Delhi Capitals and former India cricketer Zaheer Khan handed the cap to him. Salam was bought for Rs 20 lakhs in IPL auction last year.
