Joe Root named England's ODI, Test cricketer of the year

England prolific batsman Joe Root has been rewarded for his fantastic international year as he earned England's One-Day International (ODI), Test and supporters' player of the year award at the country's annual ceremony.

The 25-year-old smashed two centuries during his side's victorious Ashes campaign last year. He also struck four ODI tons and was England's top scorer in the recently-concluded World T20 in India.

Root clinched the Test award after beating team-mates Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes while he surpassed Jos Buttler and David Willey in the ODI category,Sport24 reported.

Commenting on the winners, England and Wales Cricket Board ( ECB) CEO Tom Harrison insisted that each of the players honoured with the award has made a significant contribution in team's performance during the year, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, Somerset's Anya Shrubsole, who was also named in the World T20 team of the tournament, has bagged Women's Player of the Year.
