Dhoni is the core of his team. His captaincy is something the world admires and he can hit powerful hits when the team needs and Dhoni proved this true when he played an amazing innings despite the pain in his back. However, Dhoni did not allow his pain obstruct him from hitting big runs. Dhoni stayed on the pitch and did not let Punjab's bowlers breathe easily until he remained on the pitch. However, Dhoni could not take Chennai to the victory but he did win the hearts of the audience.

The match played between CSK and KXIP was one of the most interesting matches played this year. Chennai won the toss and chose to field first as all the toss-winners have been doing this season. The decision to let Punjab bat looked alright at first before Gayle and Rahul started punishing the Chennai bowlers hard.

However, it was MS Dhoni's innings that proved to be the most impressive at the end of the match. Moreover, Dhoni hit a six with just one hand but managed to transfer enough momentum to the ball to make it reach across the boundary.

KL Rahul hit 37 runs off 22 balls whereas, Gayle, playing his first match of the IPL season 11 hit 63 runs off just 33 balls. Chris Gayle hit long sixes and 7 fours. Gayle hit a six, so long that Preity Zinta was left awe-struck after looking at the shot hit by Gayle. The left-handed batsmen are known for their destructive batting style but Chris Gayle was not given a chance to bat in the first match.
