Gautam Gambhir attacked Virat Kohli-led Indian side; says Ravi Shastri's 'best touring team ever' comment is wrong

Gautam Gambhir is in news since announcing his retirement from cricket. He was recently making headlines after he criticised MS Dhoni for his captaincy in 2012 CB Cup held in Australia, where Dhoni decided to rotate the three Indian openers and not play them together in one game.

Now, Gambhir hit back at the current Indian head coach Ravi Shastri for his ‘best touring team ever’ remark. Shastri had claimed that the current Indian side under Virat Kohli is the best touring Indian team ever. The coach received a lot of criticism for his comment and the latest to join the list is former left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir in his statement said that, “I’m sure that people who haven’t won anything give these kind of statements. I don’t know what Shastri has achieved in his career apart from the World Championships in Australia. I don’t think he was ever a part of an overseas Test series win. If you haven’t won anything yourself, you end up giving this kind of statements”.

The Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on December 4, 2018.

The left-handed batsman captained Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premiere League and won two titles for his former club, he also played domestic cricket for Delhi.

Gambhir made his one-day international debut for India in 2003 against Bangladesh and made his Test debut against Australia in 2004.

Gambhir was an integral member of team India and played an important part in winning both 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and 2011 ICC World Cup. Gambhir scored 75 and 97 runs respectively in the finals of both the tournament.

In 2009, Gambhir was ranked the number one ICC Test player and also recieved the ICC Test player of the year award. The 37-year-old batsman is the only Indian cricketer and one of the four in the world to score five consecutive centuries in Test cricket.

In 2008, the Government of India honoured Gambhir with Arjuna Award, India's second highest sporting award.
