After debacle in New Zealand, Graham Ford appointed Sri Lankan cricket team coach

Graham Ford is set to begin his second term as coach for the Sri Lankan Cricket team after a disappointing tour of New Zealand where the team was soundly beaten 4-1 in the series.

The South African will leave his position as head coach of English county side Surrey with immediate effect, after the club confirmed the same in the media.

The 55-year-old had previously coached Sri Lanka from 2012 to 2014, before joining Surrey.

Alec Stewart, the director of cricket of Surrey, said it was a very tough decision for Graham Ford to leave Surrey but added that the team understood that the opportunity to go back and coach at an international level with Sri Lanka was too good to turn down.

Ford had guided the club to the county championship second division title last season. His first assignment with the Sri Lankan cricket team will be their tour of India for a T20 series in February.
