Heavy rains lash Tamil Nadu; schools, colleges shut

Heavy rains since 12 November have brought Tamil Nadu to a standstill. Seven districts in the state have announced holidays for schools and colleges as heavy rains continue to lash the state.

Schools and colleges in Tirunelveli, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts have been closed for a day. Schools have also been shut in Kanyakumari.

According to media reports, examinations in Anna University - scheduled for 12, 13 and 14 November - have been rescheduled to 21, 22 and 24 December.

Puzhal, in Chennai district, reportedly received the highest volume of rainfall of 21cm on 13 November.

It is expected that Chennai will continue to receive moderate rains. The Chennai to Bengaluru Brindavan express was also cancelled because of the rains
