Minister of State for Tourism Alphons Joseph Kannanthanam has said his ministry observed 'Swachhta Pakhwada' between 16 September and 2 October, 2017 to promote cleanliness in offices, educational institutions and prominent tourist places.

Addressing a press conference here, Alphons said the campaign had been organised at more than 80 places all across country.

The minister said he himself volunteered for various cleanliness activities in Delhi and Shillong, where he also administered the "Swachhta Pledge" to all participants.

Alphons informed media that his ministry, in close collaboration with Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), envisaged developing heritage sites and making them tourist friendly to enhance their tourism potential and cultural importance.

A film on "Swachhta" was also launched.
