  • In the past three years, India\'s startup eco-system has grown by leaps and bounds.
  • The startup culture is not restricted to small businesses. Industry stalwarts like Ratan Tata have also jumped onto the bandwagon. Tata has invested in over 25 startups in the last few years alone.
  • The Narendra Modi led NDA government\'s focus on \'Make in India\' has helped provide a nurturing environment for startups in the country.

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has partnered with US chip major Qualcomm to organise a startup contest in the Make In India Week which is scheduled to take place from 13 -18 February in Mumbai.

The startup contest will look for the best startup idea and for entrepreneurs who can innovate and add value to new ideas. The winner will receive an equity funding of Rs 2 crores from Qualcomm to implement their idea and bring it to reality.

The contest will be open for entries from 4 February. The last date for submitting entries is 12 February - a day before the event. "We plan to invite all budding entrepreneurs and shortlist the best ideas to be a part of Make in India's best startup contest," said a senior government official.

Make In India Week is one of the numerous programs organised by the Government under Make In India and Startup India Standup India program. The aim is to boost the overall entrepreneurial environment and startup ecosystem within the country.
