Several people have raised questions about how Bollywood as a film industry is not progressing with a constant drop in collections and footfalls every passing year.

This decade saw the inception of the Rs 200 and 300 crore club at the box office, however, a funny fact to be noted here is despite creating such records, the number of patrons purchasing film tickets has fallen to a huge extent. 2001 blockbuster Gadar was watched by 5.05 crore Indians as compared to merely 3.54 crore to 3.60 crore people watching Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Dangal.

The volume of films that release has increased year by year but the success ratio has seen a massive drop. In 2016, there were 225 releases out of which merely 16 proved to be successful and 7 managed to rake in Rs 100 crore or more.

The year 2017 seems to be a promising year with almost all major superstars except Aamir Khan having a film slated for release. The trade as well as media is positive that the year will see record number of Rs 100 crore earners ever since the inception of this club. The most successful year this decade is 2013 wherein the cumulative box office collection was Rs 2790 crore and this year the film industry is expected to come close to the Rs 3000 crore mark.

Here are the films which are expected to set the Box-Office on fire:

100 crore club:

  • Raees
  • Kaabil (Hindi + Tamil + Telugu)
  • Jolly LLB 2
  • Badrinath Ki Dulhania
  • Judwaa 2

150 crore club:

  • Rehnuma (The Ring)
  • Robot 2.0
  • Padmavati
  • Golmaal Again

200 crore club:

  • Baahubali 2
  • Dutt Biopic

250 crore club:

---

300 crore club:

  • Tubelight
  • Tiger Zinda Hai

While the above mentioned films are coming with a certain amount of expectations there are several dark horses which can spring in a pleasant surprise. Akshay Kumar has two more films with very unconventional title slated to release this year i.e. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Padman. Arjun Kapoor too has two releases this year in the form of Half Girlfriend and Mubarakan which promise to be full proof commercial entertainers.

There a several other comparatively small films like Naam Shabana, Raabta, Jagga Jasoos, Phillauri, Munna Micheal, Bhoomi, Secret Superstar, and Baadshaho which can prove to be a successful venture.

Will such diverse offering this year, 2017 might just prove to be the most successful year of this decade.
