It is official that Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar acquired the remake rights of Rajesh Khanna's classic, Ittefaq.

While the scripting is currently in progress, the makers have already started choosing the cast for the film. Sidharth Malhotra will play Rajesh Khanna's role while Sonakshi Sinha will essay the character portrayed by Nanda in the classic. On the other hand, the makers were keen to get Nawazuddin Siddiqui on board to play Iftekhar Khan's iconic cop role.

The lead actors have already signed the film. However, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has turned down Shah Rukh Khan's offer. Mid-Day quoted a source,

"Nawaz was approached to play the iconic cop's role and he had agreed to come on board initially. Later, he told them that he was not happy with the climax and wanted it changed, but the makers weren't keen to rework the script. Disagreement over this forced him to opt out of the film."

The film will be directed by Abhay Chopra who is currently busy rewriting the story especially the climax. Ittefaq revolves around an artist who is accused of murdering his wife.

The movie will go on floors by this year end and will release in 2017.
