After social media was flooded with rumours of veteran actress Mumtaz’s death reports on Friday, her daughter dismissed the rumours through a social media message. The family also interacted with news agency PTI and shut down the rumours.

"She is alive, fit and fine. She wants to know why everybody is spreading false news," a family member told PTI. While Mumtaz’s daughter Tanya Madhvani also shared a video on Instagram of herself in which she reiterated that her mother was fine and sends her love to all her fans.

"So exhausting another rumour of my mother's death. She is healthy and looking beautiful as always and has asked me to let her fans know she is well! It's all rubbish,” Tanya captioned the video.

All these came in response to film critic and trade analyst Komal Nahta's now-deleted tweet that read, "Yesteryear actress Mumtaz passed away in her sleep early this morning in Bombay due to cardiac arrest. Funeral tomorrow once her daughter reaches from the USA." However, the tweet was later deleted.

The critic later wrote, "Extremely sorry for posting news about Mumtaz ji’s demise. By God’s grace, she is hale and hearty. The incorrect news is gaining ground in the film trade. But to set the record straight, Mumtaz ji is absolutely fine."

Mumtaz is a legendary Bollywood actress, who ruled the silver screen in the 60s and 70s. She is known for her films like Khilona to Do Raaste opposite, Rajesh Khanna. She has also won a Filmfare Best Actress award.

Mumtaz married businessman Mayur Madhvani in 1974 and quit acting after a few years. Mumtaz has two daughters – Tanya and Natasha. Tanya lives in Rome with her husband Marco Cilia and their son, while Natasha is married actor Feroz Khan's son Fardeen Khan.
