Fan Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan film performs well on its opening day

Shah Rukh Khan's Fan got off to a reasonable start at the Box Office as the film raked in around Rs 20 crore on its opening day, 15 April.

While the figures seem may seem underwhelming for a Khan film, the opening numbers are quite positive, considering the genre of Fan and its unconventional storytelling.

The Maneesh Sharma-directorial performed the best at Delhi, Kolkata, Mysore and Hyderabad while underperforming at the Mumbai circuit - owing to low collections in the Gujarat belt. The collections ranged from good to average at the mass circuits. For instance, Fan raked in Rs 59.50 lakh in Central India (CI) and Rs 72 lakhs in Rajasthan, both mass circuits.

The film reaped the benefit of the Ram Navami holiday on 15 April at many places. A multiplex-oriented film like Fan usually sees a jump in collections on Saturday and a jump in collections over the weekend will prove important for the film.

The critic reviews are mixed but are fairly positive. However, it is too early to gauge the audience word of mouth which holds the key for any film.

The budget of Fan is Rs 105 crore inclusive of Print and Publicity. The film stands a good chance to recover the investment taking into account the revenue from all sources.
