After a lot of fanfare surrounding Khalnayak's sequel, it is finally official that Subhash Ghai and Sanjay Dutt will produce the second installment with a young star-cast. Titled Khalnayak Returns, the action thriller will go on floors by the end of 2016.

The script of Khalnayak Returns will begin with Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) coming out of jail after 20 years to find himself in a completely different world. Speaking about the remake, Subhash Ghai told a leading daily,

"We have made an agreement to produce Khalnayak Returns which will roll by the year end or early next year. I did meet Sanjay when he was out on parole and discussed the idea with him. He made a soundtrack with some voice-over in the background which I loved. Impressed with his passion for the film, we decided to take the idea forward."

The director-turned-producer also promised that the film will be a big multi starrer with many new characters.

"It'll be a multi-starrer with many new characters. You never know, Ballu might find another khalnayak, among them,"

On being questioned if Tiger Shroff will be seen as a tough police inspector in the sequel just like his father, Jackie Shroff in Khalnayak, Ghai said,

"We haven't singed anyone yet. We are completing the script first. There's lots of excitement and we'll announce further developments at the right time."
