The MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) chief Raj Thackery has issued an open letter to Bollywood, threatening them to 'financially' help drought victims in the Marathwara region of Maharashtra. The letter apparently asks Bollywood celebrities, especially actors Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, to provide monetary aid to people or face a blackout of Hindi films in the state.
A few weeks ago, Raj Thackeray had called Salman Khan a 'brainless' person. Expressing his stance on the actor's tweets against the hanging of the 1993 Mumbai blast convicted Yakub Memon, Thackeray had said:
"Salman is a man without brains, while his father is a respectable man. He does not read newspapers and does not know the law and thus went on tweeting in his (Yakub's) favour. Then there are people who sent letters to the President seeking mercy for the traitor. How can anybody question a Supreme Court order?"
Well, we won't argue over why the MNS is seeking Bollywood's help. But banning film releases surely demands a justification. Plus, one wonders why Thackeray wants Salman Khan to help, as he considers him 'brainless'!
