After Dil Dhadakne Do, Ranveer Singh and Zoya Akhtar have teamed up yet again for a film tentatively titled Gully Boy. Being scripted by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the film will present Ranveer's character as someone born and brought up in a Mumbai slum.
Unlike previous Zoya Akhtar films, this will be a hard-hitting drama narrating the journey of an underdog who becomes a rapper with a voice and heart. The film will also address various social issues like Dalit oppression, street life, inequality and homosexuality.
The film is one of Zoya's most ambitious till date and there will be many real life references. As a part of their research, Reema and Zoya met a few rappers in Mumbai which helped the two incorporate some changes in the script.
The film will reportedly be a two-hero film. However, details about the second character have not been divulged as yet. Initially, it was reported that Zoya is in talks with Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor for a film. While Ranveer has already come on board, it will be interesting to see if Zoya manages to rope in Ranbir as well.
Gully Boy will go on floors early next year.
