QUICK PILL

Pink, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, stars Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Amitabh Bachchan in important roles. The trailer and sneak peeks of Pink drummed up quite the buzz about the film. But does it live up to the expectations? Let's analyse:

What may work for the film

On paper, Pink is a film that revolves around an ageing lawyer who fights for the rights of three young, independent women living in Delhi. But the film is an unabashed attempt at destroying stereotypes against women.

Society is quick to judge women who are independent and outgoing. And this is the mentality that Pink aims to destroy.

The sequences involving the character assassination of the three leading ladies will anger you, as you find yourself getting entangled in their lives and rooting for them.

The film also allows viewers a rare glimpse into the state of mind of a judge who has to abide by the lengthy legal procedure despite being fully aware of the truth at hand.

The roles have been cast to perfection and each member of the star cast delivers a memorable performance.

The questions raised by each character during the court-room sequences in Pink are bound to spark discussions about the Indian mindset.

What may not work for the film

The film runs slightly longer than necessary. Apart from this, the only other area wherePinkleaves something to be desired is its characterisation of Amitabh Bachchan. His character comes without a back story, something that would have worked well with the plot of the film.

Will it do well at the Box Office?

The content of Pink will appeal primarily to five urban cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai. The hard-hitting content of the film may work against it at rural areas.

The film is expected to enjoy a positive word-of-mouth. Pink will also benefit from a two-week free run before the next big Box Office release, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

Despite an average start at the Box Office, the collections are bound to pick up from 17 September on, followed by a steady trend.
