Sonam Kapoor's Neerja, directed by Ram Madhvani, opened to positive response from critics and audiences alike on 19 February. The film managed to rake in over Rs 23 crore in its opening weekend alone - setting a record for the highest opening weekend for a female-centric Bollywood film.

Unlike many Bollywood films, which fail to trend well at the Box Office after an impressive opening weekend, the Sonam Kapoor film continued its golden run even in its second weekend.

Second Weekend collections for Neerja:

  • Week 1 (19-25 February): Rs 35.32 crore
  • Friday (26 February): Rs 3.15 crore
  • Saturday (27 February): Rs 5 crore
  • Sunday (28 February): Rs 7 crore
  • Total: Rs 50.47 crore

The Neerja Bhanot biopic has breached the Rs 50 crore mark at the ticket window in merely 10 days and is now looking to end its Box Office run with collections of over Rs 65 crore.

The film's success story brings to mind Kangana Ranaut's Queen, which managed to rake in around Rs 62.5 crore at the Box Office - despite a slow start of Rs 1.5 crore.

Neerja, which raked in about Rs 4.7 crore during its opening days, is now looking to breach the Rs 65 crore mark - and is well on its way to become Bollywood's highest grossing female-centric film of all time. To put things into perspective, Mary Kom collected Rs 64 crore during its Box Office run.
