It has been 22 years since the release of Mohra. Twenty two years since songs like Tu Cheez Badi and Tip Tip Barsa Paani topped the charts.
From the camaraderie between Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, to Naseeruddin Shah's menacing act, to Paresh Rawal's one-liners, Mohra had all the ingredients of a commercial blockbuster.
Of late, Mohra has been in the news again, thanks to Alia Bhatt's tribute to Tip Tip Barsa Paani, inspired by Akshay Kumar's Rustom. Just the tune of the song brings to mind the image of Raveena dancing in the rain in her now-famous yellow sari.
But did you know that Raveena was not the first choice for her role in Mohra? Sridevi was initially offered the character of Roma Singh. However, she was busy shooting for Chandramukhi along with Salman Khan. Director Rajiv Rai then turned to Divya Bharti, who signed up for the role.
Divya had begun shooting for the film, before her untimely death in 1993.
The makers of Mohra then decided to re-shoot the sequences starring Divya Bharti. That's whe the producers decided to approach Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - who was a new face at the time. She was unable to sign on as she was tied up with her Miss World assignment.
The makers then approached Raveena Tandon. And you know how the rest of the story goes.
