It has been over 10 years since Katrina Kaif made her way into Bollywood. From a girl next door, to an undercover agent, to a journalist, Katrina has often tried to pick up challenging characters over this time.

In Fitoor, the actress will be seen essaying the character of Firdaus. In a group interview, the actress revealed that everyone will connect with the emotions in Fitoor.

"There are a lot of elements with which the audience will connect to. The basic conflict of the film is love which is as universal as it gets. Fitoor is about parental and societal pressure."

Despite most of her films being commercially successful, critics have often been pretty harsh about Katrina Kaif's acting. On being asked about the same, she said,

"If we knew which films would give us critical acclaim as well as commercial success, then we would make sure to achieve that with every film. I don't do films for acclaim or success. I just follow my instinct and do what my heart says. I have never made a calculated mood and I have always gone ahead with films which I wanted to be a part of."

Though the character is inspired from the novel, Great Expectations, Katrina blindly followed director, Abhishek Kapoor's vision.

"The character is inspired from Great Expectations. The basic traits and personality are very similar because we have kept the personality similar. I had to act as per Abhishek's vision, so the basic research involved me spending time with Abhishek to know more about the character. I believe Abhishek is a very good director and I loved his earlier films like Rock On and Kai Po Che. I think his strength is to understand the human nature which he incorporates beautifully in creating good characters. He always has a lot of insight and opinionated things to say. He has a depth of knowledge," explains Kaif.

Fitoor releases on 12 February 2016.
