Learn from the Russians: how to use selfie sticks as weapons

In Russia, people are being taught to use selfie sticks as weapons of defense. Targetting tourists, the training is designed to thwart criminals at the time of an attack.

According to the organisers of the new martial art course, selfie sticks are completely legal and can be carried anywhere including flights.

"Unfortunately, very often a selfie stick is the only weapon a tourist has when travelling abroad, and it has the advantage of often being at hand," spokesperson Daria Lapshina told Yahoo News.

Managers of the martial arts centre M-PROF says that they want to offer this five-lesson 'Monopod fighting' course to tourists who carry expensive smartphones and travel extensively.

The five-lesson course includes Thai boxing training and mixed martial art along with combat exercises choreographed by the organisers.

The organisers also suggest the best stick to use; according to them, solid metal design sticks are the most effective ones.

As per the organisers, the basics of monopod fighting can be learnt within minutes.

The training, which started a month ago, has been garnering a good response from clients.
