Auto Expo 2016: Watch out for these big-ticket car and bike launches

Car and bike manufacturers worth their salt are displaying the best automobile picks for 2016 at the glitzy Delhi Auto Expo. Day 1 of the Auto Expo 2016 kicked-off with many high-end launches coming from Chevrolet, Hyundai, Volkswagen and other auto-makers.

Here's a look at the most-awaited car and bike launches at the Auto Expo 2016:

Datsun GO-Cross

The GO-Cross is one of the Auto Expo's most-awaited vehicles. This mini SUV is expected to be launched with 5 and 7-seater options. The 5-seater version is expected to arrive in the market first.

The mini SUV will feature a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder DOHC diesel engine that powers the GO+ MPV. This engine, with a 5-speed manual gearbox, generates 64bhp of power and 140Nm of torque.

  • Expected Launch: Mid 2016
  • Expected Price: Rs 5 lakh - Rs 10 lakh

Hyundai i20-based sub-compact SUV

Hyundai showcased the all-new sub-4 meter compact SUV on Day 1 of the Auto Expo 2016. Similar to other recent Hyundai cars, the upcoming compact SUV will also follow the 2.0 fluidic design philosophy, with the features and engines similar to that of the i20 hatchback.

A 1.4-litre U2 CRDi and 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine that will be coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission will power the car.

  • Expected Price: Rs 7 lakh - Rs 10 lakh

Toyota Innova 2016

The new Innova 2016 made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2016. The new model will be called 'Toyota Crysta' and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio upon its launch.

The India-specific model will be powered by a new 2.4-litre GD diesel engine that will come with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

  • Expected Price: Rs 10 lakh - Rs 16 lakh

Honda BR-V

The newly unveiled BR-V (bold runabout vehicle) compact SUV will be packed with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine options.

    After the Amaze compact sedan and the Mobilio MPV, the BRV is the third product that has been developed by Honda's Asia Pacific R&D team. Expected Launch: 2017

    Tata Nexon Compact SUV

    The Tata Nexon, a compact SUV, will be built on the X1 platform, and will be positioned between the Zest and the Safari Storm. The exterior and interior design elements, and features will be similar to that of the Zica hatchback.

    A 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine, along with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylider turbocharged or a new all-aluminum Revotron petrol motor will power the car.

    • Expected Launch: Late 2016 or Early 2017 Q2, 2016
    • Expected Price: Rs 6 lakh - Rs 10 lakh

    Volkswagen Ameo

    Volkswagen showcased the Ameo sub-compact sedan at its Auto Expo pavilion after its global debut a day before the Motor Show - 2 February, 2016.

    This sub-4 meter sedan is based on the Volkswagen Polo hatchback, and share its design bits and engine with its hatchback sibling. The car will come with a 1.2L MPI engine mated to a five speed manual gearbox. A bigger 1.5L TDI engine will also be available, with a five speed manual and a seven speed DSG transmission option. Safety of its occupants is another important feature of the car. It comes with dual front airbags and anti-lock braking system as standard.

    TVS Apache RTR 300

    TVS Motor Company is bringing in a more powerful 'Apache RTR 300' motorcycle in India. The much-awaited TVS Apache RTR 300 concept made its debut on Day 1 of the Auto Expo 2016. Based on the BMW G 310 R, this naked sportbike is powered by a 300cc, single-cylinder water-cooled engine, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. With an engine of the BMW G 310 R, the bike is capable of churning out 33.5bhp of power and 28Nm of torque.

    • Expected Launch: Q2, 2016
    • Expected Price: Around Rs 2 lakh

    Suzuki Gixxer 250

    The Japanese bikemaker introduced a more powerful version of the bike - Gixxer 250 - that made its debut at the Motor Show. The successful bike is based on Suzuki's GSX platform, shares most of its design bits from the GSX-R1000. A 250cc, single-cylinder engine capable of producing around 28bhp - 30bhp powers the bike.

    • Expected Launch: Late 2016
    • Expected Price: Rs 1.50 lakh - Rs 1.80 lakh
