#QuotaForPatels: Caste war in Gujarat; here's what you need to know

The state of Gujarat is facing massive disturbance because of the agitation by Patel community which is demanding an OBC quota for itself. On the other hand, other communities which are already under OBC quota are coming together to stand against the demands of Patels.

Here is a look at the entire controversy:

- The Patel community of Gujarat is demanding a quota for themselves under the banner of Patidar Anamat Andolan.

- Movement is led by a 22-year-old youth leader Hardik Patel who has challenged the state government that if their demands are not met they will not let BJP government come to power in 2017.

- A massive rally of 40 lakh people is going to be organised today, on 25 August to show the strength of community.

- Chief Minister Anandiben Patel formed a seven member committee headed by Nitin Patel to carry out talks with the community.

- Both the parties met on 24 August but could not come to a conclusion. The government has expressed that it wouldn't be possible to cater to the demands of Patels.

- The other communities which fall under OBC category have formed a Gujarat OBC Ekta Manch to stand against the Patels.

- This is because the reservation cannot exceed 50 per cent and if the Patels are given OBC status then it would impact the other communities because their share of the quota will be decreased.
